1924年に「紀伊之國屋文左ヱ門総本店」、略して「紀文」として店名を改めた。

氷のように冷たい果物
１９２１年アメリカ製の冷却機を導入して
「氷のように冷たい果物」が大人気になりました。
冷たいまま霞ヶ関の官庁や
ご家庭に届けるために
配達用のオートバイや自動車も導入しました。
宮内等御用達
冷たい果物の評判が立ち、
皇族の方にも大変喜ばれ
宮内庁御用達の果物商となりました。
冷たい果物のおくりもの
果物商からはじまった紀ノ国屋は、
この時代から
従業員がお客さまのご要望をお聞きして
好みの果物を選んで「おくりもの」をお誂えする
「調進」サービスがおこなわれていました。
創業115年、紀ノ国屋の歩んできた
歴史や道のりを、写真や文章から読み解き

The KINOKUNIYA Story, Part 2
This is the story of KINOKUNIYA’s early days.[1910: Founded in Aoyama, Tokyo]
Our journey began as a fruit merchant, the “Masui Asajiro Shoten.” In 1924, the name was changed to “Kinokuniya Bunzaemon Sohonten,” affectionately shortened to “Kibun.”
An English Signboard
To welcome customers from overseas as well as Japan, we displayed our store name in English on our storefront.
The “Choshin” Bespoke Service
We listened carefully to each customer’s wishes to create original fruit gifts—a bespoke service we called “Choshin.” We would even carry the thoughtfully prepared gifts to their cars.
Ice-Cold Fruit
In 1921, we installed an American-made refrigerator, and our “ice-cold fruit” became immensely popular. To deliver this fruit perfectly chilled, we introduced a fleet of delivery motorcycles and cars to reach government offices and private homes.
[Purveyor to the Imperial Household]
Our reputation for delicious, cold fruit grew, earning the great pleasure of the Imperial family. We were honored to become an official purveyor to the Imperial Household Agency.
The Gift of Cold Fruit
From our beginnings as a fruit merchant, we KINOKUNIYA have always offered “Choshin” service, where our staff consults with customers to select their favorite fruits and tailor the perfect gift.
